Space Weather for Surveying

Give unusual survey readings some context.

Space weather for surveying helps geospatial and mineral exploration teams account for changing environmental conditions during fieldwork. Pxie provides ground magnetic observations and broader storm context that can sit beside instrument records, survey timestamps and the checks your team already performs.

Three ways to put the data to work.

Contextualize magnetic surveys

Compare unusual magnetic observations with activity at available ground stations. Regional disturbance information can help an exploration team investigate whether temporal changes deserve attention before interpreting a feature as geological. Station distance and local conditions still matter to that review.

Brief positioning crews

Bring geomagnetic storm context into the daily briefing for teams relying on precise satellite positioning. Use it as an awareness signal when reviewing receiver status and field conditions. Pxie does not calculate ionospheric corrections or predict the positioning error at your rover.

Support office review

Attach environmental context to the time and place of a survey issue. Engineers and geophysicists can then discuss the same observations with field staff, compare affected sessions and decide what further checks are appropriate under their own quality procedures.

How it fits into your day.

A mineral exploration crew notices changing readings during a magnetic survey. The geophysicist compares the collection times with nearby station observations and the wider storm picture, then reviews the instrument and base-station records. That comparison helps frame the investigation and document the conditions around the session. It does not establish that space weather caused the anomaly or determine whether the survey meets its acceptance criteria.

Before you build.

Does Pxie replace a survey base station?

No. Regional magnetometer observations provide supporting context. They do not replace local base-station measurements, instrument calibration or the processing methods required for your project. Nearby observations can still differ from conditions at the survey site.

Can it tell us when GNSS accuracy will recover?

Pxie provides storm and magnetic activity information, not a receiver-specific accuracy forecast. Continue to use your positioning service, receiver diagnostics, reference checks and project tolerances to decide whether measurements are acceptable or need repeating.
